five years and big dreams

Precious Ruby--

After 10:52 this morning, I headed into the sixth year of motherhood.  I actually have no clue how this happened other than the impossible explanation of time flying.   Several months ago, we talked about how you would turn five soon, and I asked you to please stop growing.  You told me that you would just like to turn five and then you would stop getting older.  I think I can handle that.

Last night, I held you before bed, and told you, "I'm so proud to be your mom."  I can't think of anything more accurate - I am honored God would entrust me with such a beautiful little life - you are a light in our lives, and I learn things from you daily.  You are the most kind-hearted soul I have ever known.  You are girly, and imaginative, and the sweetest little friend to everyone you meet.

You spend your time in an imaginary world or a creative one.  We here you sing life lessons to Eisley a lot.  You are beginning to add and subtract and read a few words.  (I can hardly believe I'm typing that you are reading, when I can SO clearly remember writing you letters as you first began speaking!)  You love princesses and crafty things.  You love to help me in the kitchen, and you are the best helper around the house!  You'd spend five days straight watching TV if I would let you - possibly surfacing for meals, and possibly not.  (We have replaced Sesame Street with My Little Pony!)

This last year was full of questions - you love to question things, and for the first time as a parent, I was perplexed by you on a regular basis.  You are inquisitive and funny, your zest for life and love and learning continues to amaze me - just as it always has.  I want to remember the way that you look up at me and ask questions, briefly stopping to consider the answer, your eyes full of wonder.

You have told me with great concern that you don't want to move out when you grow older, so we have an agreement that you'll remain five and live with me for the rest of your life.  However, you have big dreams to be a painter, and you also want to cheer for many sports teams, so you might have some decisions to make.

Anything in the world is possible in your mind - you don't question differences in people, you believe in the good, and you dream big.  May your precious heart stay that way forever.  You can go wherever you want to go, beautiful girl.  I love you with all of my heart!

XO,
Momma
